So, you are playing Minecraft, and you find a mushroom biome. Just for fun, you dig up some mycelium, replace it as dirt, and plant a flower/sapling. 5 seconds later, the dirt has been taken over again by mycelium and the plant is uprooted. There are a few ways to keep that from happening...
1. Dig up the block you plan to plant on if you see a sapling or flower. Next, dig up any mycelium blocks that are one block to the plant's left, right, north, or south. You don't have to worry about the corners; mycelium doesn't spread diagonally.
2. Put a dirt block in the middle. The dug-up section should look like a plus sign.
3. Plant the flower or sapling.
4. Replace the other dirt blocks when the sapling has become a tree. However, don't do this if the sapling is a flower.
